We drove to Antakya/Hatay yesterday. Whereas the cities closer to our home here in Turkey are somewhat functioning, Antakya was pretty much leveled by the earthquakes. In the city center there is not one building that is habitable. It is a ghost town – right out of an end of the world movie. Most of the collapsed buildings have been removed, those still standing will be demolished over the next couple of months. It will take many years, probably decades, until everything is rebuilt. It was quite intense seeing all of this with my own eyes and I was also quite hesitant to take images. Ulya gives a bit more context in here Instagram Story.
