Uses
On the one hand talking about equipment is pretty boring, on the other hand photographers are bound to talk gear sooner or later. I am glad that I do not have any aspirations to change my current setup for the foreseeable future. (Famous last words, I know.) But it has been pretty stable for more than 8 years. The last change I made was upgrading from an X-E4 to an X-T5, but only because I got more for selling the E4 used than I had originally paid for it.
Cameras
- Leica M10-P – My favorite camera of all time. I will never sell or trade it. If I was only allowed to own one camera, I would keep it and the 35 mm (see below). (since 2018, view images)
- Leica Q (Typ 116) – My first Leica camera. Image quality still amazes me and whenever I use it, I tell myself I should take it out more. (since 2017, view images)
- Fujifilm X-T5 – This camera has surprised me. Its sensor is finally up to what I am used to from the Leicas in terms of dynamic range. In 2024 it surpassed the M in the amount of images taken that year for the first time since 2019. It is weather-sealed and can be operated single-handedly, which makes it the perfect everyday carry. (since 2023, view images)
- Fujifilm X-T1 – Rarely gets any use these days. It was my second Fuji camera (after the X100S). The kids get to use it whenever they feel like going out photographing with me. (since 2014, view images)
Lenses
- Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH. – My most used lens by far. It might not be the sharpest, but it has become so familiar that I can operate it pretty much without thinking. (view images)
- Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. – Probably the best lens in my whole kit. It renders beautifully. Iconic lens. (view images)
- Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R – The OG Fuji lens. It is very lightweight and I love, love, love its character. My favorite Fuji lens.
- Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R – Another one of those "I should use this more often" objects in my kit. It is my second favorite Fuji lens and I always use it for event documentation. Also super sharp.
- Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 R WR – Compact and weather-sealed. My #1 choice when taking the camera out with no particular goal, like a grocery run.
- Fujinon XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS – The longest lens I own. Surprisingly sharp for the price and lightweight compared to other offerings in the same focal range.
I own a couple more lenses and I will finish the list above soon. I'll also add which software I am using to edit and process my images, although there is a pretty accurate post about my workflow on the other blog.
