I can't count how often people have teased me about shooting almost exclusively in Black and White. But I don't care, I am not shooting for them, I am shooting for myself. This is my creative outlet, this is how I understand the world and make sense of things. This is how I remember people, places, situations. And sometimes, just like Mark, I photograph, because I find something interesting or just delightful to look at.
It is also the reason why I don't bother looking at Instagram. It is not for photography – at least not in the sense that I understand it. I rather sit down with a photo book and dive deep into a body of work than consuming bite-sized pieces of the same, over and over.
So, to answer Mark's concluding question: It most certainly doesn't matter what other people think about your photographs. I strongly believe that you will create your best work when you do not think about other people at all.
